Welcome to the Perry Removals of Sudbury website. This website has been designed to help you through the process of moving home with information not only on the removal itself but on other pre and post removal day issues.
Sudbury has had a chequered history where local industries have prospered since the late middle ages when the weaving and silk industries thrived. The original ceremonial woolsack in the House of Lords was stuffed with wool from the Sudbury area.
Simon Sudbury founded St Leonards Hospital in 1372 as a place of respite for lepers. Reputed to be the inventor of poll tax he met with a sticky end when he was dragged to Tower Hill and beheaded in 1381.
During the 18th Century Sudbury became famous for its local artists including John Constable and Thomas Gainsborough. Gainsboroughs birth place, Gainsborough House, is now a museum open to the public. In 1893 the Town Council decided that bathing in the river was to be banned after 8am except at Dobs Hole where screens had been erected. Now a thriving modern town with many retail and industrial developments one of the largest employers is Nestle foods. In 2004 Perry Removals took over the interests of the Sudbury based Chapmans Removal Company and have carried out domestic and commercial moves throughout the area including works at Long Melford Hall and Kentwell Hall plus the surrounding communities of Great Cornard, Bures, Cavendish and Clare. One house removal that Perry’s did NOT carry out was the physical moving, in 1972, of the building shell of Ballingdon Hall, which was towed 800yds up the hillside to be resited away from an industrial estate. The spectacle was watched by 10,000 people.
